Based in Sugarland, Texas, our not-for-profit center offers specialized listening and spoken language sessions; all communication supports are tailored to each child’s unique needs – regardless of severity of hearing loss. We believe in providing more than just specialized education; we offer a heartfelt partnership with families.
Our unique approach is rooted in the fact that we reflect minority cultures in more ways than one. Our empathetic connection allows us to guide parents through each step of their child’s educational journey with understanding ears and much compassion. Rima Lahoud
Director, Owner, Certified Teacher of the Deaf M.E.D, CED
Upon completing my master’s degree in Deaf Education from Smith College in Northampton, Massachusetts, I started my deaf education journey in Tampa Florida at The Bolesta Center. There, under the mentorship of Ethel Denny Bolesta, I was introduced to the Auditory Verbal Approach. I had the privilege of observing Bolesta work her magic with profoundly deaf children, teaching them to listen and speak. Bolesta worked closely with families offering them guidance and teaching them how to become their child’s primary teachers using daily language naturally. The families and children I have encountered at the Bolesta Center have left indelible marks on my heart, and many have become lifelong friends. After six enriching years in Tampa, I relocated to Houston, Texas, to be closer to my family. I joined the Center for Hearing and Speech, where I taught deaf children ages 2 to 6 at the Melinda Webb School, to learn to listen and speak while working closely with their families.
Nine years later, I embarked on a new chapter at the Cypress-Fairbanks Independent School District, in Houston. Initially, I served as an Auditory Enrichment Teacher and later as a Listening and Language Specialist. In these roles, I had the privilege of training teachers, collaborating with professionals, supporting children in the mainstream’s setting and working closely with families. My lifelong dream has always been to open a center dedicated to supporting deaf children and their families. Witnessing this dream come to fruition fills my heart with joy and gratitude.
Christine Le
AuD, CCC-A Volunteer Consultant
Christine Russell, is a certified clinical audiologist. She received her B.A. from the University of Houston-Downtown and her Doctorate in Audiology from Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center. She has worked in ENT clinics, private practice, and as an educational audiologist. Her clinical interests are in diagnostic testing and pediatric amplification.
Dr. Le is a remarkable educational audiologist with an exceptional ability to connect with young children and provide support to their families. Her warm and empathetic approach makes children feel at ease, allowing for more accurate assessments and effective interventions. Dr. Le’s expertise extends beyond her clinical skills; she enjoys counseling parents, offering them compassionate guidance and comprehensive information about deafness. Her dedication to collaboration is evident in her work with teachers and staff, particularly in mainstream education settings. As a valuable member of ARD meetings, Dr. Le ensures that every child’s educational needs are understood and met, providing an inclusive and supportive learning environment. Her unwavering passion for counseling parents on deafness highlights her commitment to empowering families and improving the lives of deaf and hard of hearing children.
